— Our Story —

Oneta Woodworks was founded by Zack Brendel in Athens, Georgia in 2008. The business grew quickly from furniture projects with a focus on reclaimed wood and small residential jobs to representing the local standard in craft woodworking.

In late 2008, native Athenian Gus Darnell joined Oneta Woodworks. Ultimately to become the shop manager and owner in 2019, Gus consistently enhanced the skilled work and creativity that Oneta became known for over the years. With over 10 years experience in fine woodworking, including three years running his own shop, Gus continues to focus on learning and mastering his craft so that he may continue to foster the growth of fine woodworkers in Athens.

Oneta Woodworks is homegrown. It brings Gus and the rest of the team great joy to play a part in building the identity of Athens for years to come. Over the years, the business has moved to four different shops, employed dozens of workers and made a mark on hundreds of projects around town. From reclaiming and building out the downtown Creature Comforts Brewery to crafting one-of-a-kind furniture to be cherished in the home for years to come, no project is too big or too small. Working with wood to create quality results is our passion — let us know how we can help realize yours.
